Leave the gate open!

Wait, leave the gate open!

I have this process that I use when I write my blogs on Sunday morning. I have a whole ritual around how and when I write them that I really love. Then when I finish,  I look over my running prompt list of topics and pick one for next week, so I can be open to inspiration and looking for examples. And every week, I tell myself that I’ll use the selected topic unless something better comes along. Because, you know something better  often does come along.

That’s something I like to add to every prayer, manifestation thought, wish or even plan: “this or something better.”

To me, it’s kind of like using your 3rd wish for 3 more wishes – with no stupidly horrible ghost story consequences!  Sometimes it’s my escape clause when I need one because I’m not feeling the commitment. Other times I’m just admitting that maybe there’s a power greater than me who might have a better idea (just sayin’).

It’s keeping the door (and my mind) open to actually be able to see the better possibilities.

This week, the blog topic on the list was literally  “this or something better.” Every single day this week was full of reminders how effective this little phrase can be.

One client made a major life decision, and received a plethora of unexpected options in response.

A friend planned a month to sell her house and move, and ended up selling it in one day with absolutely amazing terms!

Opportunities for new consulting work just appeared. People volunteered to do something I didn’t really want to do, but was planning.

I won’t list all of them, but there were so many examples, that it reaffirmed my other favorite saying, which is that you can’t make this shit up.

The point of adding the this or something better tagline isn’t that you don’t need to be responsible and plan and actually do the work.

The point is to not be so tied to your plan, to your way of doing things or to your own hoped-for outcome that you don’t see the better options when they appear.

But most of all, the point is that amazingly wonderful, previously unimagined options will appear, because this life – your life – is full of amazing, wonderful things. So leave the gate (and your eyes) open for them!

And remember: in all things – progress, not perfection!
