You are not your brain

 In Tapas Blog

You are not your brain.

Have I said this before? I probably have. It’s worth repeating. And exploring.

Frequently we forget, and think that we are our brain. Or maybe more accurately, our thoughts.  That whole “I think, therefore I am” stuff. Not wrong, just not the whole story.

You are not your thoughts. You are the one thinking and observing those thoughts.  You are the one deciding what to do based on those thoughts.

You could be the one deciding what to think.

Our brain also likes to make us think it’s in charge. It’s bossy that way.  Have  you ever heard yourself say “I can’t help it, that’s what I think.” That’s something you’ve chosen to think. Or maybe you have just chosen not to dispute that assumption.

You can decide what you think. It’s not that farfetched, and it’s not that hard. Think about a puppy.

See, you just chose what to think.

It’s a lot of work to choose what to think. We sure don’t want to do it all day long about everything. What do I think about taking a step? What do I think about turning on the blinker? Yikes. That’s the stuff we can chose to delegate to our brain.

But the important stuff, yeah, we can choose what we think. We can question the stuff our brain serves up.  Maybe we’ll agree with it, maybe not.

But we are in charge. No victim crap here. And that matters, because your brain is the most powerful tool you have available to you.

Just think what you can do with it when you are using the most powerful tool at your disposal. For good.

And remember: in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love and light, Maggie
