My Christmas Letter to You

My dear friend –

I’ve known that my blog would land on Christmas Eve for a while now, and I’ve been fretting about what I could say that would be moving and insightful and…well, you know, like a gift. I thought “It has to be perfect, but what can I possibly say in a year like this?”

As I fretted about writing the perfect blog, I realized something: that’s pre-2020 thinking. The conditions we put on ourselves, the need to make things perfect, to be perfect – those are old stress triggers.

For me, that stress is very familiar and so are the thoughts behind it. I have to be perfect in every way if I can expect people to like me, listen to me, want to be around me, love me. Yes, I’ve done a lot of work to move beyond that, but still, those thoughts do pop up. Because I had years and years of them, they are familiar and I don’t always manage them away – especially in the middle of the night!

One thing 2020 has given us is massive proof that no one is perfect. We’ve seen each other at our worst and at our best – and sometimes, we are our best in our yoga pants and a sweatshirt, enormously happy to just see each other’s smile! We have been seen.

And now I see that all I really want to give you is love.

In previous years, I would have been singing in my beloved acapella group, giving the gift of a Christmas concert. I miss that so much. I can’t give you a concert, but I can gift you this song, (which is written by Jordan, my nephewson (a story for another time). I hope that this song moves you. Pass it along if you feel moved.

In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. And in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love and light,

Maggie

This year in unlike any other year so far. I would normally never suggest giving coaching as a gift, but this year, I think it is appropriate. I have created a short online course How to Choose a Color to Work With Right Now (yep, that’s the link) that explains the messages of 16 important colors. It would make a nice gift or stocking stuffer!
