There is so much going on in the world right now.
So many things need our attention.
So much work to be done.
What can I do?
Where do we start?
Can I even make a difference?
It can be overwhelming. It can feel hopeless. Maybe there is nothing I can do that will matter. Should I just be resigned to the hopelessness?
Nope. There is hope. There is light.
I virtually attended an amazing, inspirational event this weekend with Marianne Williamson, and there was one phrase that just jumped out at me. It gave me perspective. It gave me hope.
Tend to the piece of the garden that is mine to tend.
I don’t have to take care of the whole garden, all of the gardens, the whole planet. Neither do you. This is actually manageable.
I have a patch, and I am responsible for tending to that patch.
Tending is such a loving word, isn’t it?
Your patch may be bigger than mine. It’s certainly different. But all of our patches need tending. Even the fallow patches need care. All of our patches depend upon other patches. We are intimately intertwined. It’s a community garden.
So put on your gardening gloves, to protect your hands from thorns and stickers and such.
Get your knee pads if you need them.
Gather your tools and tend to your patch.
If we all tend to our patches, the garden comes together.
In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. And in all things – progress, not perfection!
Love and light,
Maggie
