Randomness

I don’t believe in coincidences, I believe in synchronicity.

Who cares what I believe? I do. Because what I believe shapes my actions, habits, disposition and interpretations. And beliefs are thoughts I think a lot. My beliefs absolutely determine my cognitive bias.

Yeah, I believe in synchronicity. Carl Jung said that synchronicity refers to deeply meaningful coincidences which mysteriously (miraculously) occur in your life. Miraculously is my addition, not Jung’s. Another way to look at synchronicity is to see that things are deeply related, but you can’t see the causal connection.

So when something seemingly random happens, I almost always look for that deeper meaning. It’s just a way for me to get some more insight; a tool that helps me look at things from a different perspective.

When I look from a different perspective, I often get clarity from seemingly random events – and so do my clients.

One client recently was trying to decide whether she should do something or not. The topic of the sermon that day was “love does.”

Another client lost someone very important to them. In the midst of her grief, the song “No Regrets” came on, and she realized that she truly had no regrets – everything that needed to be said had been said, and her grief was pure.

So yeah, synchronicity. I find it helpful. Don’t get me started on signs!

At my mom’s memorial service, one of the major themes that came out was that my mom was a connector. She wove webs that connected people. The filaments are so fine that they’re almost transparent, so you can’t necessarily see the causal connection, but the impacts were profound: homes, jobs, lasting friendships, and even a romance or two. My mom was a synchronicity weaver.

These are just some random thoughts of mine. Hah! I guarantee that I will open this up again sometime, exactly when I need to be reminded of connection and synchronicity.

We are not random. It is not just a coincidence that we are connected, you and I.

In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. And in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love and light,

Maggie
