Let’s play a game of “Watch This Space”

In these crazy, unprecedented times we need evidence of hope.

I’ve said before that hope is not where we stop, where we stall and remain waiting, because we humans are creatures of action. But hope is certainly a place to begin. Right now, we need to begin actively looking for evidence of hope. Let’s go look for spaces where we can find hope and anticipation by playing a game of Watch This Space. Here goes.

Watch this piece of bare ground where the tulips will soon make their annual appearance, showing up in colors that weren’t there a few days ago, for Spring returns tomorrow.

Watch this sky where the rain will appear again. Where the sun will shine again. Where the moon will be full again. Where the stars will continue to soar in the sky, lighting our way.

Watch the air where morning is filled with birdsong and evening will be filled with crickets and frogs. Watch as the air clears as there is less traffic.

Watch this bay. The sails will dot the water and ride the wind again.

Watch the shelves in the store. Trucks will come to deliver toilet paper to fill the shelves again. Something else will disappear and show up again. We will have new reasons to tilt our heads and say “WTF?”

Watch this stadium, this field, this court, where the team will run out to play and prance and preen in front of the fans again.

Watch the stages. The singers and dancers and actors and instrumentalists will all show up again. The audience will begin moving into their seats. There will be laughter and tears and applause again.

Watch your heart. See how you are still capable of appreciation and love and gratitude and kindness. Watch this space grow as you find new ways to connect with people, as you seek out and find evidence that humanity is also at our best when things are at their worst – even if it takes us a while to get there.

Watch this space. We will endure. Keep looking for the evidence of hope.

Watch THIS space – this blog space. I’ll be sharing details about my new book that is coming soon, The Rainbow Onion, and how you can be part of the launch team and get an advance copy.

Remember this: you are loved.

Remember this: The people most threatened are currently the weakest among us. They need hope and they need our help and support, not our panic. We need to be our best, strongest, most generous, rational and compassionate selves. People are counting on us.

If these words helped you, please feel free to share them with someone you know who might need. That’s one kind thing that you can do. And if you have additional, positive ideas, please share them in the comments!

And remember: in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love and light, Maggie

p.p.s Sure, you could be cynical and watch for all the fuckups that could happen. But who in the hell is that gonna help?

Hi Maggie! Thanks for this post. You’re such a great thinker and writer and leader for our times, challenging and otherwise. I have a suggestion for the site. It would be great to be able to ‘like’ a post, without having to comment. I assume there’s a plugin for everything, including this, if you think it might be helpful to you, and not just me. 🙂
