Optimism

I heard the best quote today: “Optimists get more done.”

Isn’t that the truth?

It was exactly what I needed to hear.

I just came back from a vacation in Europe. I brought back a lot of chocolate, cheese, coffee…and a cold. Of course my perspective is a little skewed thanks to the cold + jetlag, but the news that had piled up in my inbox was pretty depressing and frankly overwhelming. And all the political flyers that were in my mailbox probably cost a good half of a tree. Oh, and I’m reading a lot of SciFi while I’m on break between finishing my first draft and moving into the edit phase and my favorite genre right now is dystopian SciFi. That’s a lot of negative mindset influences, I gotta say.

I am a natural optimist. I have no idea why, I just am. I always have hope. It is convenient, I think, that being optimistic and having hope feel a lot better than  pessimism and futility.

The part that I really like about the quote is that it talks about moving to action. Hope isn’t meant to be a solo act. It needs a partner. Not much happens if all you do is sit around and hope. But if you combine hope and optimism, you get a lot more optimism.

Yes. Optimists get a lot more done. I see it happen every day.

In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. And in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love, and light in the pages,

Maggie
