summer clean up

Here’s an old theme served up again, like pulling out our favorite summer pasta salad recipe!

We don’t have to believe everything our brain tells us.

Just because we think something doesn’t mean it’s true.

Just because we think we believe something also doesn’t mean it’s true.

Our brain is trying to protect us.

It’s also trying to be efficient. Translate that to lazy.

It doesn’t want to go look for new information or work out the solution to a problem when it’s got a handy old answer still sitting around. Who cares if it doesn’t fit well or if it’s outdated? It’s easy. It’s right there within reach. Autopilot, even.

We need to remind our brain from time to time that we are in charge.

We can do that by saying things like:

“Wait, what?”

“Is that really true? Let’s go check.”

“Hmmm. That’s one possibility. Is there another that might be more useful or be a better fit?”

Maybe a little spring cleaning of the brain is in order. What thoughts or beliefs just don’t fit anymore? What little dust bunny biases are sitting in the corner of our mind? What rubbish is piled up over there?

Why not spruce things up a bit for summer? Yeah, let’s do that!

In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. And in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love, and light in the pages,

Maggie
