the ugh! factor

I wanna talk about the ugh! factor.

You know what I mean…things that make you go ugh, I don’t wanna. I’d rather stomp my feet. Or eat dirt. Or maybe I should check my email again…

Yeah. I’ve been saying ugh! a bunch lately. I don’t know exactly why, but I’m pretty sure it’s a peaks and valleys thing. Or a transition thing. The time change, the seasons, the work calendar, handing things off to other people, taking on new stuff. Basically just not being quite in my rhythm yet. So I have a bunch of ugh moments (not to be confused with Uggs, which are quite cozy and comfy!)

These are some categories of ugh moments, for those of us who like to make lists (especially instead of actually doing the dang ugh thing):

  • Things you just don’t want to do
  • Things you aren’t ready to do
  • Those people that are just annoying
  • Things that are boring
  • The thought of having salad again
  • Things that require putting shoes on
  • Things that require preparation
  • Things that require finding something
  • Things that interrupt what I’m already doing
  • Anything after 8 pm
  • Telemarketers and spam calls
  • Multi-day projects
  • Rehearsing another damned madrigal

I don’t really have any magic solution to getting through them. I usually just do it. Eventually. Sometimes I just don’t have the energy or the focus or the commitment. Oh wait! I do have one thing I do. I  play with them. I call my son or my niece and talk about them and exaggerate how horrible they are, and I groan and swear and we turn it into our version of an SNL skit. It’s still not actually doing them, but at least it feels better.

One thing I do know is that sometime in the near future, things will change. The tide will turn and what was once a big ugh will probably be just fine. I might not even notice.

…except for those annoying people…

What are your ugh! factors, and what do you do to get through?

In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. And in all things – progress, not perfection!

Love and light, Maggie

Great “ugh!” list! There is a pile of papers on my desk I gotta process. Ugh. When I am done I will say “Really? That was it?” lol
